LIC Agent in Ulwe Sector 17

When both partners work and share the home loan, both incomes matter. Yet often only one person has proper cover — or neither does, beyond what their employers provide. I'm S Kulkarni, an LIC agent in Sector 19, Ulwe, and I help couples in Sector 17 plan cover and savings as a team.

  • Cover for both partners, sized to each income
  • Shared home loan and children's goals
  • Evening and weekend discussions

Questions couples should ask

  • Could one of us pay the EMI alone?
  • Do we both have enough personal cover?
  • Who is each policy's nominee?
  • How do we split saving for the children?

Insurance Planning for Working Couples

Two incomes make a home loan possible. They also mean that losing either income would hurt. A common mistake is insuring only the higher earner, or assuming that employer group cover is enough for both. Let's look at it properly.

Cover for each partner

Each partner's cover should reflect their share of the EMI, household expenses and goals. If one partner earns less but contributes a large share of the household's running costs or childcare, their cover matters too. Two separate term plans, each with the other partner as nominee, is a simple and common setup.

Saving for the children together

Once both incomes are protected, we can plan for the children's education with a child plan or savings plan. Some couples split this between them; others put it under one partner with a premium waiver option, where available, subject to plan terms.

Don't forget health-related cover

Employer mediclaim usually covers hospital bills, but a serious illness can also stop one income for months. A benefit-based LIC health plan or rider can help, depending on what's currently available.

Plan together: it works best when both partners are in the conversation. We can meet on a weekend or speak on a call in the evening.

A Simple Planning Grid

Fill this in together before we meet. It speeds things up a lot.
